Cop out

Yet another BRPD officer got canned for wrongdoing. With Cpl. Jacob Cowart gone, that means a quarter of the department's once-dozen-person narcotics unit has quit or gotten the axe.

Guilty on two counts

After nearly four hours of deliberation, jurors found Dulce Maria Funez guilty on two counts of first-degree murder. Youssef Rddad, who covered the trial, brings us this dispatch from its culmination. 


'We could have prevented this'

COVID hospitalizations on Wednesday rose to their highest levels since mid-February in a surge that's pushing doctors and nurses to the limit. 

"These numbers aren’t just numbers," Dr. Katherine Baumgarten, an infectious disease specialist at Ochsner, told one of our reporters. "These are individuals that have been loved and that are missed. We could have prevented this. We should have prevented this through vaccinations."
