According to authorities, a father is dead, and his two children were injured when a grenade detonated in their Indiana home on Saturday. The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the deceased Sunday as Bryan Niedert. "Injuries, cause, and manner of death are all pending," it said in a statement. The Lake County Sheriff's Department responded to the home around 6:30 p.m. for a reported explosion. When they found a hand grenade, the family was looking through a grandfather's belongings at the northwestern Indiana home. The device detonated when someone reportedly pulled its pin. The father was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. His two children, a 17-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old woman, were taken to an area hospital with shrapnel wounds. (read more) |

There are a variety of strategies to invest in the stock market, but few are as reliable as buying dividend stocks. You can make a ton of money even if you're not particularly skilled at identifying winners. The typical S&P 500 index dividend-paying stock that started or increased its payout had a 10.2% yearly return between 1973 and 2022, a 50-year span. Conversely, non-dividend-paying equities in the same index experienced a 0.6% annual decline during the same time. It seems to make sense that investors who hunt for firms that pay higher-than-average dividends can significantly outperform the overall market, and we already know where to look. The most recent round of quarterly disclosures that institutional investors must make went public lately. The top investors in the world acquired these three high-yield dividend stocks like hotcakes in the first quarter. (read more) |

Ex-Marine Daniel Penny is finally opening up about what happened on May 1 when he held Jordan Neely in a chokehold and ultimately ended his life. Penny is currently facing criminal charges that could send him to prison for up to 15 years. “This had nothing to do with race,” Penny said when asked about the confrontation he had with the 30-year-old mentally ill homeless man. “I mean, it’s, it’s a little bit comical. Everybody who’s ever met me can tell you, I love all people, I love all cultures. You can tell by my past and all my travels and adventures around the world. I was actually planning a road trip through Africa before this happened.” The incident occurred after Neely began yelling and throwing trash at other people. Penny said while he couldn’t go into details for legal reasons, the erratic outburst was unlike anything he’d experienced before. Here’s what Neely’s family is saying about the death of their family member and what message Penny wants to relay to them about the events that transpired. (read more) |
