Plus: Judith Lucy's back for a new season of her podcast

The world's biggest environmental summit, COP27, begins this weekend in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. It's being called "Africa's COP", and on the agenda is the unfair distribution of climate change impacts on the developing world. But Human Rights Watch says debate around environmental issues in Egypt is far from free, and the country is using COP27 to greenwash its reputation. For the latest on this major conference, catch up on coverage from RN Breakfast's Sarah Dingle. Greenwashing is an issue for fashion as well – whether it's excessive claims about the benefits of organic cotton or the new trend of recycled polyester. For Laura McAndrews, a former fashion worker who's now speaking out about the industry, it amounts to "giving you a pretty little story – and now you feel good about your overconsumption". Read this feature from Threads (or catch up on the latest episodes on ABC listen). And if this all feels overwhelming, you're not alone. Judith Lucy is there with you – and in the last season of her podcast, she asks if she's capable of making changes that help both her and the planet. Plus, for our Adelaide subscribers – keen to get along to a live recording of Ockham's Razor? Tegan Taylor will be hosting an event later this month, and you can get tickets now! Until next time, Rosie Ryan, digital editor Enjoy getting ABC RN in your inbox? Invite your friends to sign up too! |
