DNV GL: What’s next for LNG

In a presentation at CMA Shipping 2016 in Connecticut Dr. Gerd-Michael Würsig, Business Director LNG fuelled ships at DNV GL -- Maritime, looked at some of the current issues in the LNG industry and provided an overview of what DNV GL is doing to support growth in this segment.

US shale gas arrives in Europe for the first time

INEOS confirmed that its vessel, the INEOS Intrepid, has arrived at the INEOS petrochemicals plant at Rafnes in Norway, carrying 27.500m3 of US shale gas ethane. This is the very first time that ethane from US shale gas has ever been exported from the USA and the first time it has been imported into Europe.

ABB to provide equipment for Shell’s Prelude FLNG

ABB has won a five-year contract to deliver equipment and services for Shell’s Prelude FLNG, the world’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, the largest floating facility ever built. ABB’s equipment will minimize downtime and optimize the efficiency of the facility.

Maersk, Weathernews sign bunker saving agreement

Weathernews and Maersk entered into a three-year partnership covering weather routing services, port forecasts and other weather driven risk communication services for safety and bunker saving purposes. Operating from five global operations centers, Weathernews Inc. will provide continuous monitoring and communication year-round twenty-four hours a day for Maersk vessels with its Optimum Ship Routing service.

Aegean launches bunkering operation in South Africa

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. announced that it is launching a bunkering operation in Algoa Bay, near the ports of Port Elizabeth, South Africa and Coega, South Africa.

Creating autonomous underwater vehicle for under sea-ice exploration

The World Ocean Council is working to foster private sector participation in the Polar Challenge – a competition to develop an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) capable of a 2,000 km mission under the sea-ice in the Arctic or Antarctic, with a prize of 500,000 Swiss francs to the winner.

RINA to strengthen salvage friendly ship features

RINA offers a new environmental notation for the development of the Salvage Friendly features of the ship. The ''DORS'' notation (Dedicated Oil Recovery System) has been the fruit of a long process of analysis of the ship life cycle up to the accident risks and linked environmental consequences.

HHI develops high flame-retarding insulation for LPG cargo tank

Hyundai Heavy Industries announced it developed the world’s first flame-retarding insulation for LPG cargo tank in cooperation with insulation system manufacturers.
