In Memoriam: Grace Lee Boggs (1915-2015)

Philosopher, writer and activist Grace Lee Boggs passed away Monday morning at the age of 100. Rooted in 75 years of the labor, civil rights and Black Power movements, she continually challenged a new generation to throw off old assumptions, think creatively and redefine revolution for our times. She was the subject of POV’s Peabody Award-winning American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs, directed by Grace Lee. The film is now streaming on POV

‘We Must Go Deeper’ wins Participants' Choice Award at POV Hackathon 10

Meet the latest POV Hackathon lab projects! This past weekend in Los Angeles, teams of media creators and technologists created prototypes that revisit memories locked in obsolete storage media, that help filmmakers and scientists ensure “good science” in media, and that put you in the virtual bushes with a peeping Tom. The Participants’ Choice Award-winning project was “We Must Go Deeper,” a virtual reality art project that entices players to continue down digital rabbit holes into increasingly strange worlds. POV Hackathon 10 was a collaboration with CreatorUp!, Film Independent and StoryCode LA. Explore the projects and the technologies behind them now on POV's blog!

‘Best Kept Secret’ director collaborates with Broadway stars to help young people with autism

Samantha Buck, director of the Peabody Award-winning POV documentary Best Kept Secret, has a new project. She’s made a video, “Mino’s Dream,” with cast members from the Tony Award-winning Broadway show “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” The video is dedicated to Janet Mino, the remarkable special-ed teacher in Newark, N.J., whose work is chronicled in Best Kept Secret. Her dream is to create a center where young adults on the autism spectrum can continue their growth and education after high school. The film is currently streaming on POV through Oct. 19.
