Good evening, Now, you can’t knock them for their optimism, but as we enter a second major phase of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s difficult to wonder if it’s all a bit pie in the sky. The Government is shelling out £100bn for a mass coronavirus testing programme that would work instantly in people’s homes - a bit like a pregnancy test - even though experts are sceptical about its ability to deliver. The programme, in what can only be described as a tongue in cheek move, is called Operation Moonshot. Let’s hope there really will be a moon landing - because as yet no reliable home test has been delivered. The aim of the project is to reopen society - something we all want. But it also seems an awful lot to spend on testing, when we have yet to find a vaccine. Yes, we’ll potentially know who had Covid - but what will we be able to do about it and do people who have had Covid even have immunity? Here in Lancashire, where in many areas, we have struggled and are struggling to keep infection rates down in many areas, we will be watching the results of this project very carefully.
