Your Monday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Jan 31, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, Much has been spoken in recent times about the concept of levelling up the North. For years, people living in the North - and the Midlands, to be fair - have argued for greater funding to improve education, skills, housing, the health of the inhabitants and crucially, jobs. We are consistently behind our Southern colleagues in all these areas - so clearly something is not quite right. Our infrastructure is also struggling and now we have been told that the plans for a new East to West railway line, linking the whole of the North, will not go ahead as planned. Yet, we are a hardy lot and will keep fighting for a fair crack of the whip despite the odds being against us, coming up with great ideas to move our region ahead and provide jobs for its people. The Eden Project North is a great example of this, offering a brilliantly creative way of rejuvenating a seaside town a little further up the coast which badly needs investment - and by default bring people to other parts of Lancashire too. All that is needed is funding to get it off the ground. The chance to put a marker down is right here. The Government must take it. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at [email protected] | |
