Disturbing news about the encroaching surveillance state in Australia emerged over the weekend as correspondence between two Federal Government department was spotlighted in the media.

The Australian Government has been quick to deny a story based on the correspondence between two department heads that the Australian Signals Directorate is trying to extend its spying powers to Australian citizens.
