An industry lobby group, that represents the interests of Google and Facebook among others, has told the Australian Government that it does not agree with the creation of an industry code of conduct on fake news, one of the recommendations in the final Digital Platforms Inquiry report released by the ACCC on 26 July. Search giant Google has reached a settlement with France and will pay about €965 million (US$1.07 billion, A$1.55 billion) to settle a fiscal fraud probe that has been going on for the last four years.
