Ever since I was a little boy, I read stories about the D-Day invasion with fascination. My interest has grown as the years have passed. I recently finished a new book about the invasion that was so graphic, it gave me nightmares for the better part of a week. Before the newscast this morning, with those bloody beaches in mind, I wrote the following: Under tremendous fire but filled with an unshakable resolve, you moved forward inch by precious inch on that longest day 75 years ago. Your bravery and sacrifice are woven into the very fabric of our freedom.
