The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning! Here are some of Baton Rouge's biggest stories.

Getting the runaround from insurance companies?

Twelve weeks after Hurricane Ida, many in Louisiana feel like their insurance companies are stalling and trying to weasel out of paying what they owe. Some have had to deal with multiple different adjusters, leading to confusion and piling-up red tape.

This story explains how massive storms can cause these problems — and how some state lawmakers are fed up.

The end of the Bama bomb threat saga

Connor Croll, a former University of Alabama student, confessed to calling in a bomb threat during the blockbuster 2019 LSU football game against Florida in Tiger Stadium. He said he was pledging a fraternity at the time and was trying to stop the game because his buddy was about to lose a bet.

Croll's criminal case has drawn to a close; prosecutors have dropped felony counts, but he's had to do a ton of community service and faces other penalties. This story explains the punishments and quotes his letter of apology to local law enforcement.

Not those biscuits

In the U.K., the word "biscuits" basically means "cookies." So you can imagine the confusion when Popeyes, the Louisiana fried chicken chain famous for what we Americans call biscuits, opened in London.

This story explains how a famous Louisiana food empire may soon be taking over across the pond.

Thanks for reading, and we hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.
