TODAY'S TOP STORYAdd these true stories to your watchlistLet me tell you, Iβm so over losing all my time getting sucked into watching long TV series. Iβm on a movie kick right now, and, of course, I really like watching the stories behind tech products and tech company founders. Here are some I thought you might like, too: βTetrisβ (Apple TV+): Yeah, the game where you fit all the blocks into each other. No kidding, the true story behind the game and the company is so much more dramatic than I realized β think Soviet Union drama in the 1980s. Trailer here.βBlackBerryβ (Apple TV+): Remember BlackBerry, the phone everyone had before iPhones took over? This comedy-drama dives into the wild story of the world's first smartphone. It feels kind of like βThe Officeβ but more amusing than outright funny, and itβs a total β90s blast from the past. Trailer here.βThe Social Networkβ (Netflix): A decade later and it's still hitting close to home. Jesse Eisenberg plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg β no sugarcoating his flaws. It's a sharp look into the messy beginnings. Spoiler: The creation of a tech empire isn't all βlikesβ and friend requests. Trailer here.βWeCrashedβ (Apple TV+): Ever wondered how far charm and a crazy dream can get you? Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway take you through the wild ride of coworking company WeWork β big money, bigger egos and a dash of delusion. It's a crash course in the highs and lows of startup life. Trailer here.βThe Dropoutβ (Hulu): Amanda Seyfried transforms into Elizabeth Holmes, the Theranos founder whose big dream didnβt work out so well. This one is a journey through the tech world's dark side. Top-notch cinematography and writing? Check. A masterclass in playing a sociopath? Absolutely. Trailer here.βThe Playlistβ (Netflix): Think Spotify just magically appeared? Think again. This gripping series goes behind the scenes of Daniel Ek's tech triumph, blending different perspectives to piece together the full story. It's like creating the perfect playlist; each track β or, in this case, viewpoint β adds something special. Trailer here.βThe Great Hackβ (Apple TV+): Forget sci-fi; this documentary shows the real-world power play of our data. It's a deep look into the Facebook Cambridge Analytica data scandal, revealing how our clicks and likes are gold for tech moguls. This one is a wake-up call to the state of your data and privacy. Trailer here.βSuper Pumpedβ (Netflix): Picture "The Social Network" meets "Scott Pilgrim" with an edge. This seven-episode series throws you into the high-speed world of Uber, complete with boardroom showdowns and Silicon Valley drama. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt nails playing Travis Kalanick. If you're into tech sagas, this is your next binge. Trailer here.π¨ Is there a good movie I missed? Hit reply and let me know! WEB WATERCOOLERHonor among thieves: Two masked thieves robbed a man at gunpoint in Washington, D.C., and took everything he had in his pockets, including his cash, phone and keys. Before driving off in the manβs truck, the thieves handed the phone back to the victim, saying, βOh, thatβs an Android? We donβt want this. We thought it was an iPhone.β How to stop a social media troll: Fight with him. A Cornell University study found social media trolls are more motivated by likes on their posts than hateful replies. Turns out, the more likes a negative post got, the more likely the trolls were to post an even nastier message. Now ChatGPT wants a tip: An X user ran an experiment by telling ChatGPT he'd tip it $20 or $200 to do a better job on tasks. No kidding, the chatbot gave longer responses with a higher tip. Btw, you canβt really tip ChatGPT. Itβs not like it needs the cash; OpenAI is worth $86 billion. What the shock? For months, a $32.99 spy cam hidden in a bathroom towel hook captured photos of a student living in West Virginia. Now sheβs suing Amazon. So whatβs the big deal? The judge in the case said, βAmazon cannot claim shockβ that its spycams are being used as advertised. Wonder how much money sheβll get to go away β¦ It's a wonderful β¦ robot: Legendary actor Jimmy Stewart will read you a bedtime story. No, itβs not really him (he died in 1997). The sleep and meditation app Calm is using an AI-generated Jimmy Stewart voice for βItβs a Wonderful Sleep Story.β I think his voice sounds like crap. You can take a listen here β just scroll down towards the bottom of the page. π― Sister, sister: In the country of Georgia, twin infant girls were sold illegally by their father to separate families after their mother died during childbirth. Normally, thatβd be the end of the story, but now, thereβs TikTok. A friend of one twin saw the other in a TikTok video and thought it was her friend. And the girlsβ biological father β a prime father-of-the-year candidate β now wants to have a relationship with them. 90 million views in 24 hours: Sweet: The latest installment of βGrand Theft Auto,β one of the bestselling video games of all time, has a female protagonist, Lucia. Less sweet: Rockstar Games says it wonβt be out till 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Watch the trailer; itβs the No. 1 trending video on YouTube. |
DEVICE ADVICEIf the family bickering has already begunGroup chats are fun when youβre happy to be there and awful when you donβt care about the convo. The adult move is to ask whoever added you to remove you β¦ β¦ Or do the olβ Irish exit if you have an iPhone. Tap the thread, then select the group icon at the top. Scroll and tap Leave this Conversation. Save this for when youβre desperate. You can also go the subtle route and mute the convo. (This is what I usually do.) Tap the group text message, select the group icon at the top of the thread, then scroll and toggle on Hide Alerts. On Android, muting is your best option β unless youβre up to telling Aunt Kathy youβre out. If you use Google Messages, open the group text, then tap the three-dot menu > Group Details > Notifications. Select Silent. Ahh, better. For other Android apps, look through your messaging menu options for an option to mute the conversation.π₯³ I like to give my group chats funny names. My large extended family group chat is βAre you sure weβre related?β The one with just me, Barry and Ian is named βFam Jam,β and my gal friends are in a chat called βBae Goals.β And youβll have to guess whoβs in the group I call βPeople I Tolerate.β (Btw, if youβre reading this and are a friend, youβre not in that group.) |

UNTIL NEXT TIME ...The answer: A.) 0%. Thatβs perfect symmetry between both sides of your body during walking. The higher the number, the more likely you are to fall. On your iPhone, dig around in the Health app to find your walking asymmetry. On Android, youβll need a third-party app, like Google Fit.
