All three major U.S. indices posted fresh all-time highs as investors digested the election results. |
Investors focus on key areas: Smaller domestic companies are seen as a large beneficiary of potential policy changes under a new administration. The Russell 2000 (the small-cap benchmark) jumped 5.84% to also hit 52-week highs. Cross-asset moves: Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) was another beneficiary, with President-elect Trump seen as pro-crypto. It vaulted over 8%, at one point rising above $76,000 for its own record high. In the risk-on mood, gold was one loser, with the precious metal now down 2.9% in November. |

2. Andy Cross’ Take on Tariffs |
The Motley Fool’s CIO posted an analyst insight to members yesterday: "Tough language from the President-Elect on tariffs is hitting retail stocks like Williams-Sonoma (NYSE:WSM) and Best Buy (NYSE:BBY). Companies that import many goods might face tariffs ranging between 10%-20%, or higher for products made in China." |
Retailers down, not out: "Ostensibly higher tariffs hit margins and growth depending on what is passed along to consumers. That might be hard to do after our recent fight against inflation." Embrace a long-term, patient investing perspective: "I'm not jumping to any rash decisions yet like the market is. Still, it's worth understanding and watching the potential impacts on our businesses and their valuations." |

Several companies reported after the closing bell. MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:MELI) is down almost 9% in pre-market trading after posting a mixed bag of results. |
Investing for growth and bad debt hampers profit: Topline revenue surged 35% versus the same quarter last year, but earnings per share (EPS) was $7.83, below the expectation of $10.16. Raising guidance after strong results: e.l.f. Beauty (NYSE:ELF) is up 7.5% ahead of the opening bell thanks to beating consensus forecasts for both revenue and EPS for the quarter. This was fueled by a 23rd consecutive quarter of market share gains. |

HubSpot (NYSE:HUBS) is up over 6.5% after the market closed, with quarterly revenue up 20% and EPS up 35% versus the same period last year. |
Growing customer base: A 23% jump in the client book helped to boost results. The company raised full-year revenue guidance to almost $2.6 billion, representing a 20% growth rate. Supply chain issues: Celsius (NASDAQ:CELH) underwhelmed investors, with the latest results missing expectations on revenue and EPS. Fool analyst Sanmeet Deo noted: “The inventory issues with Pepsi (NASDAQ:PEP) continue to weigh heavy on the stock, with concerns of further pressures in the future. There are some indications this will improve, but led the stock close to 52-week lows.” |
Airbnb (NASDAQ:ABNB), which reports earnings today, has faced headwinds as some guests are returning to hotels for their service and price. Which is your hotel of choice: Marriott (NASDAQ:MAR), Hilton (NYSE:HLT), Hyatt (NYSE:H), or another? Or do you prefer to stay in an Airbnb?
