What Annabel Crabb discovered making Ms Represented will shock you |
|
As Annabel Crabb spoke to women MPs across different generations and the spectrum of political belief to make the ABC's Ms Represented, she was prepared for them to disagree with each other. But what shocked her the most about making the series was the one experience almost all of them had. Former Liberal Deputy Leader and Foreign Affairs Minister Ms Bishop calls the phenomenon "gender deafness". "It happens if you're the only woman in a room and you come up with an idea or you say something," she says. "So often, there's no response. And then the next person speaks. And then the next one actually appropriates your idea. And then all the men around the table nod and say, 'What a good idea'. And you'd be there, 'Didn't I say that? Did no one hear me?'." Watch Ms Represented here. |
