Plus: The cost of equal parenting
| | This week, Geraldine Doogue joins us to test your knowledge of the past century’s movers and shakers: Why do we tell so few big history stories in Australia? Maybe the relentless 24-hour news cycle exhausts us? Maybe the lack of essential curiosity blights us even more? Saturday Extra has come up with a solution. This morning we're launching a "who-am-I?" quiz for listeners about some of the influential characters of international affairs over the past 100 years. We're calling it Guess the Game-changer. These notables have either strutted the stage or worked under the radar. Either way, they've made headlines, changed the existing order of things and are the stuff of great human tales. We still feel the effects of their decisions. Yet often we've forgotten how they presided over the genesis of current dramas. Our quiz format will try to explore this, and have some fun too. In collaboration with The Conversation, we've chosen a group of 10 prominent characters from different countries who have influenced the course of events within the last 80 years, sometimes majestically, sometimes capriciously. All of whom have left their mark on our world. For the next few weeks, after the 8:00am news on Saturday mornings, I'll drop the clues and pose the who-am-I question. The first listener who texts the right answer will be highlighted towards the end of the program. We'll share a short summary of the character and point to a profile feature written by an academic specialist, which will appear on both The Conversation and on ABC News online. The people we'll highlight in the series are the giants of our time. Like them or not, they mattered. Being reminded of them matters too. Geraldine Doogue Enjoy getting Radio National in your inbox?
