When I founded MidCurrent, I believed that consistent, trustworthy gear and news coverage would be essential to our success. What I couldn't have known was that several years in we would find a writer like Spencer Durrant to lead that charge. Over the years, Spencer transformed what could have been routine gear reviews and daily news into something truly special. His consistency, diligence, and professionalism were remarkable. But it's his ability to make technical content engaging that has made his contributions most valuable to our mission of informing and entertaining fly fishers.
Every piece Spencer submitted to MidCurrent was grounded in actual on-the-water experience—no shortcuts, no assumptions, just honest assessments based on real fishing conditions. His dedication to thoroughly testing products and providing honest, helpful commentary is unmatched. He had a talent for identifying and prioritizing what matters most to our readers, cutting through marketing hype to deliver genuine insights that help anglers make informed decisions. When Spencer recommended a rod, reel, or piece of gear, readers knew they could trust his judgment because he'd put in the time and effort to evaluate it from an expert angler's perspective. In short, Spencer is one of the best gear reviewers I've ever worked with.
Though I've had the pleasure of meeting Spencer in person only once, at a Confluence event in Salt Lake City, where we shared a breakfast and traded industry news, we've talked about fishing together many times, and we've had more than a few a conversations about going up some remote drainage or down some hidden river in Wyoming to find wild cutthroat trout. We share a desire to see native trout habitat endure, and Spencer's take on conservation in general is always insightful. Getting out on the water with him remains firmly on my bucket list, and I hope we'll make it happen soon.
Spencer, thank you for your outstanding contributions to MidCurrent. Your work elevated our publication and served our readers in ways that went beyond what we could have hoped for.
