JOIN US HERE!_________________________________________________ GDP, Earnings and the Fed — Why This Week’s Data Could Make or Break Monday’s Early Rally Futures are very strong ahead of the open as we begin a new trading week, erasing about half of Friday’s downside. I’m still not sure if the downside was over fear of this new COVID strain, or because of the economy and the bad data points we’ve been seeing. One of the things that’s happening is Trump has the need to say things before he does them — IF he does them — and the market’s trying to adjust. Markets like certainty, not the back and forth that we see with Trump. The smart thing to do is if Trump says something, the first thing to do is fade the reaction. We also have a lot of catalysts coming this week including earnings, with a lot of retail names on deck — retail makes up 70% of the economy — and we have Nvidia (NVDA) on Wednesday. For Fed data, the biggest reports are Consumer Confidence at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, New Home Sales at the same time on Wednesday followed by Atlanta Fed President Rapahel Bostic at noon, and then GDP at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, and then Personal Income and Outlays at the same time on Friday. It’s a very full, eventful week, and I expect volatility to pick up!
