What's making news in New Orleans
By Chad Calder | Staff writer YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN THIS NUMBER: A third of New Orleans residences have had no garbage collected since the storm. And only 5% of tree limbs and other storm debris has been picked up. The city is urging patience, and has offered up its explanations here. GATOR CAUGHT: St. Tammany Parish authorities say they have captured and killed the 12-foot, 500-pound alligator believed to have killed a Slidell man the day after Hurricane Ida. The Sheriff's Office said the gator was found with human remains in its stomach. WHERE THE POWER IS: Local pols are talking about finding ways to force Entergy, not ratepayers, to cover the cost of repairing the power grid. But experts say it's unlikely that the utility will ultimately bear that cost itself, despite questions over whether it did enough to strengthen the system torn up by the storm. EYE ON NICHOLAS: Tropical Storm Nicholas is headed toward Texas and could reach hurricane strength before it gets there, but Louisiana is not expected to escape unscathed. The region could see as much as 8 inches of rain through Thursday, and many roofs remain damaged due to Hurricane Ida. Thanks for starting your day with the Front Page. CC |
