Gameday is here as LSU hosts New Mexico in Tiger Stadium. The weather is hot, the opponent is ... not so much. As I tell you in my column for the game, these are the contests that have to be endured more than they get you excited. But there is an opportunity for the Tigers, winners of two straight after losing their opener to Florida State, to build on momentum heading into the heart of the schedule next week at Auburn. We also talk a little about how games like these fit into LSU's future schedules and break down LSU's NCAA probation in the wake of the James Cregg case (that's a lot in 800 words, let me tell you). Meanwhile, our Leah Vann drills down specifically in Saturday's gameday centerpiece on the place-kickers. LSU likes to call itself DBU for the great defensive backs it's produced over the years. But the kickers have been pretty stellar, too, with the Tigers always managing to put, ahem, their best foot forward. Wilson Alexander gives us his keys to the game for LSU to win. No, don't just say "show up" — there is some definite strategy involved. Zach Ewing, our version of Jimmy the Greek, takes us inside the betting line on LSU-New Mexico. It's a tough one trying to figure out whether to trust the Tigers to cover the inflated 31.5-point spread or not. The over/under of 45.0 is also a pretty darned interesting number, too. Sheldon Mickles stops by to give us this week's SEC rankings. See where he has LSU after the Tigers' big win last week over Mississippi State. And remember Lindsey Scott, the well-traveled one-time LSU quarterback from Baton Rouge? Ted Lewis brings us up to date on where Lindsey is now. Remember, the game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will only be shown on an online streaming basis via SECNetwork+, which means going over to Watch ESPN or clicking on the ESPN app. Thank you again for subscribing to our LSU sports newsletter.
