Friend, The ACP — which is the first federal program in the United States dedicated to subsidizing the cost of high-speed internet access — enjoys bipartisan support inside and outside of Congress. But, of course, we know that doesn’t mean that lawmakers will do the right thing and appropriate more money to fund this essential program. That’s where you come in. Be one of the 83 people we need to make a gift by midnight tomorrow to fuel our fight in the weeks ahead. Thanks so much, All of us at Free Press Action

Friend, can you imagine life without the internet? Without it, you can’t access basic things like education, health care, jobs, government services or information about what’s going on in your community. It’s clear that a high-speed internet connection is not a luxury — it’s a necessity. And when we asked Free Press Action supporters how the internet has changed their lives, they overwhelmingly agreed: “I was able to launch a company that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to and become self-sufficient.” “As a single Black Mom of two who both had their own very specific needs, I had to overcome many hurdles to get their needs met. I was able to homeschool them and tailor-make their curriculums accordingly for their personalities as well as their own energy levels.” “It has allowed me to access more job opportunities and educational opportunities.” |
That’s why we’re fighting so hard to save the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides nearly 23 million low-income households with a monthly subsidy to offset the cost of high-speed internet. But with funding for the program in jeopardy until Congress takes action, we need to continue turning up the pressure. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to get involved, this is it, friend. Will you rush a donation to help us save the ACP? We’re looking for 83 individual contributions to help us end February on a strong note: DONATE NOW Here’s the bad news: Funding for the ACP will run out by April if Congress fails to step up. And if that happens, millions of households will face higher internet bills they cannot afford in May. Here’s the good news: The Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024, a bill that would keep the ACP funded through the rest of the year, has strong bipartisan support among mayors, state lawmakers, federal lawmakers, public-interest groups, civil-rights organizations, labor unions … even internet service providers! And guess what? Our ability to keep moving the needle on this important legislation is made possible thanks to lots and lots of people (like you!) chipping in small amounts of money from emails like the one you’re reading right now. That’s why we’re asking: Can we count on you to make a gift by the end of the month? Every dollar goes toward our grassroots advocacy — exactly what we need to get this legislation and funding for the ACP over the finish line. We don't expect you to make a gift every time we send you an email. But with funding at risk for a popular lifesaving program that is helping to close the digital divide, we’re hoping you’ll donate to this one. Thank you so much, Heather and the rest of the Free Press Action team freepress.net P.S. It's exceedingly rare to have a program with such a broad base of bipartisan support. Yet that doesn't mean Congress will continue to fund the ACP and keep low-income households connected. Help us ramp up the pressure with a gift to Free Press Action by midnight on Thursday. |
