Stocks were down across the board ahead of Thursday morning’s Producer Price Index report, and on the heels of Wednesday’s stronger-than-expected Consumer Price Index. But things started moving higher once the data was released an hour before the open. The numbers showed that producer prices rose 3.2% year over year vs. expectations of 3.4% and a previous reading of 3.5%. Excluding more volatile food and energy prices, the number came in at 3.4% YOY. After this week’s numbers, the Federal Reserve can finally say with a straight face that it’s making progress in the fight against inflation. We saw a strong move Wednesday in chip and tech stocks, and the Magnificent Seven names. The 200-day moving average is the level to watch almost across the board now. We also got earnings this morning from Dollar General (DG), which is up nearly 7%, while Ulta (ULTA) and DocuSign (DOCU) report after the close. We also have a potential government shutdown looming in addition to Trump’s constant tariff volleys. Your insights have been instrumental in refining my approach, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into all of us (though I do wonder about some of the folks…).
