Winter Workshops Saturday Workshop: Perspectives on History: Designing Change Please note date change! January 14, 2017 (9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) Presented with the National Postal Museum Explore persuasion and propaganda with SAAM and the National Postal Museum. Zoom in on postage stamps and stand back from wall-sized murals to see how design, social issues, and persuasion come together in meaningful ways. Take home strategies for engaging students in evidence-based reasoning, argumentation, and persuasive writing. $10 registration fee, including light breakfast and lunch Register here. Evening Workshop: Beyond the Mainstream: Self-Taught Artists and the Role of Creativity March 15, 2017 (4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.) Presented with the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts Spend the evening with curators, conservators, musicians and fellow educators as you nurture your own creativity and expand your classroom toolkit. Look beyond the mainstream art world where selected artists' voices help shape our understanding of American culture. Engage with curators and conservators to explore the work of self-taught artists whose work acts as a lasting record of the struggles and achievements of a broader public and a testament to the power of creativity. $25 registration fee, including reception and hands-on activities Register through the Kennedy Center here. |
