That's because our negative specific events are still there, under the surface, affecting our lives subconsciously. Once they are reduced or eliminated, which we can do nicely with our process, they are no longer there to compete with our natural, positive, joyous thoughts. These thoughts can now be free to bubble up to the top without the necessity to artificially maintain positive thoughts. That's what sets us apart from almost any other method.
Hopefully, this poem helps make the point.

'Twas John's fiftieth birthday, a time to feel glad,
But his heart was quite heavy, his spirit was sad.
He dwelled on life's troubles, the pains he'd endured,
By diseases and sorrows, he felt quite immured.
'My life is a burden,' he thought with a sigh,
When a wise woman heard him, and looked in his eye.
'You focus on darkness, on all that's gone wrong,
Your body responds, making hardship more strong.'
'Try EFT tapping,' she whispered, 'release what you hold,
Let joy bubble up, let the negative fold.'
He tapped and he breathed, and his body felt new,
The old chemistry faded, like morning's first dew.
