Hello friends, and good morning from Augusta, Georgia. How was your eclipse? Heard it wasn’t that great in Louisiana. There was a 76% eclipse here in Augusta, which surprised me on two counts: 1. For the sun being three-quarters obscured, it was still quite bright. There was no danger of players stopping play in their Masters practice rounds. 2. The temperature at the height of the eclipse must have dropped 10 degrees. As cool as all that was (Cool, get it? I’m moving on) there’s an LSU sports newsletter to plow through here, and we’re just the guys to do it. First off, the basketball news keeps coming — as do the Kim Mulkey impressions, apparently: • LSU men’s coach Matt McMahon is reportedly losing an assistant coach to Louisville • The Tigers are definitely losing Jalen Cook, who is entering the NBA draft • Seldom-used point guard Angelica Velez has entered the portal • And did you see that SNL cold open with a Mulkey “lookalike?" We’ve got a link to the video. On to baseball, which has a midweek game against McNeese and simply needs to beat somebody. Anybody. Wilson Alexander drops by with a look at his projected offensive depth chart as we move closer to Saturday’s Spring Game. LSU gymnastics coach Jay Clark has an update on that elbow that is bothering star senior Haleigh Bryant (who keeps getting perfect 10s anyway) as the Tigers enjoy their week off before nationals. And ouch, LSU softball blew a big lead late to drop both the series finale and the series at Florida. From here in Augusta, I've got an "answer man" column on The Masters I wrote on the back of a scorecard while sitting under the dogwoods and pines. Not really, I wrote it in the palatial, "We are not worthy of such a nice place" press building we have at Augusta National Golf Club. And I bring you a notebook of sundry items from a eclipse-y Monday at the year's biggest tournament. Hey, both have references to LSU golfer Sam Burns in them, so the judges say they qualify for the LSU notebook. But one of them only gave me a 9.75 for not sticking the landing. Thanks for reading, subscribing and spending a bit of your sports Tuesday with us. Scott Rabalais |
