Happy New Year! At the dawn of 2021, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic and apprehensively excited. It’s the feeling I get before I’m about to make a big meal: There’s lots of work to get done, but the outcome may be beautiful. Thanks to the launch of The Carlos Watson Show, I spent 2020 talking to some of the most creative, curious and charismatic leaders in this country. This week, I want to share some of my favorite thoughts they had on what the year ahead may hold and how we can move forward in 2021.

There was a lot to talk about with the billionaire and philanthropist, but perhaps most surprising: his take on the future of pandemics and U.S. public health. Are we ready for the next outbreak?

In a fiery conversation, the former White House press secretary Sean Spicer pointed out that “saying Black Lives Matter doesn’t make anyone's life better.” While I believe in the power of language, he got me thinking about how we can take our discourse and commit to real change.

CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin is one of the top financial journalists of our time. As someone who has studied America’s capitalist system closely, his thoughtful critiques of it are important to hear.

This OG feminist very much still has her finger on the pulse of today’s movement and the changes we should see in the future. In this episode, Gloria Steinem gives a master class on how to build a movement and fight for real change, something I hope we’ll be doing a lot of this year.

One of the voices I’m most interested in hearing in 2021 is that of Dr. Anthony Fauci. He’ll be joining me early this year to talk about the vaccine rollout and the future of public health. I know this is a conversation you won’t want to miss, so be sure to subscribe to The Carlos Watson Show for the latest on all our new episodes. Happy 2021!
