The Lunch Line: French Quarter Festival latest to cancel; and some fearless Saints predictions

By Bob Warren

Singing the COVID blues: Guess we kinda saw this one coming, right? The French Quarter Festival has been canceled. It comes on heels of several other recent cancellations, including the Jazz Festival. Geez.

It also comes as the city prepares to require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to be allowed into a lot of public venues. That's old hat for some restaurants and bars, our restaurant/bar guru Ian McNulty says.

How'd that get there? Earlier this week a letter signed by 19 lawmakers was sent to Gov. John Bel Edwards urging him to drop the mask mandate in public schools. But now some of the lawmakers are saying their names shouldn't have been on it.

Saints predictions anyone? The Saints open the preseason Saturday night with a game in Baltimore. Got a prediction for the season? Here's what some of the Saints beat writers think, columnist Jeff Duncan reports.

Honey, stop the car! Get ready for another season of watching people sell fab houses in New Orleans. HGTV's "Selling the Big Easy" series returns in September, Judy Bergeron reports.

Enjoy Lunch Line, friends. Thanks for taking a break with us.
