It's the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and, best of all, leaping into leaves!
Winnie the Pooh, Pooh's Grand Adventure
Hi John,
After experiencing so much smoke from recent fires, we haven't been getting outdoors much to celebrate the start of autumn. Fortunately the air cleared this weekend, so we packed the kids and dog in the car and cruised over the hill to Half Moon Bay, pumpkin capital of California (some say, the world!) to pick out some pumpkins, eat donuts, and push the dog around the patch in a wheelbarrow.
It got me thinking about the wonders of fall and how much joy marking the seasons brings our family.
Making art with fall leaves is another favorite, and you'll love Painting Faces on Leaves, a seasonal Art Starter for kids of all ages.

In this project, your child will gather leaves, look at them from different angles to determine what kind of critter they want to makes (reasoning and problem solving skills at work!), and invent faces from their imagination.
Younger children may not want to make faces at all and be perfectly happy decorating leaves with lines, dots, and shapes. If that's the case, just follow their lead. All ideas are welcome.
