In camera-less photographs, he creates landscapes ("Felder") that deal with the process of reduction and simplification. Frank Mädler also continues his work with photograms ("Frauengruppen"). Color and the theme of memory play a central role in his new body of work, "Umgebungsbilder". In 2004, he won a scholarship to the German Academy in Rome at the Villa Massimo, an esteemed German prize for a visual artist.
