CDC drafts proposed guidelines for reopening the economy The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has drafted proposed guidelines for a phased reopening of the economy as more states Monday began to lift stay-at-home orders and resume operations amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox News has learned. Tennessee, Mississippi, and Montana allowed some businesses to reopen under new health guidelines.
The CDC also has added six new symptoms to those reported to be associated with coronavirus. This development came as researchers in China claimed to have protected monkeys from getting infected, the first time this has happened with a potential vaccine.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Tyson Foods has issued a stark warning to Americans following the shuttering of multiple meat processing plants across the country due to the coronavirus outbreak: “The food supply chain is breaking.”
Still, there was optimism on Wall Street as U.S. equity markets gained Monday while a handful of states took steps to reopen their economies from shutdowns caused by COVID-19 and lenders resumed doling out loans to small businesses.
Meanwhile, in France, the coronavirus lockdown may not be over, but workers at the fire-damaged Notre Dame Cathedral were gearing up for cleanup and restoration efforts to resume next week.
And finally, New Zealand claimed victory over coronavirus Monday, with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern telling reporters the virus is effectively eliminated. The number of new cases in New Zealand has remained in the single digits over the past several days.
