#1 Former Maker Exec Joins Wurl TV
Wurl TV, a company that curates and develops OTT-based channels that can be woven into the set-top guides of MVPDs, has hired Mike Woods as SVP and head of product. Woods, who starts at Wurl TV on May 1, most recently served as VP of product management at Maker Studios, the Disney-owned digital programmer.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Wurl TVs co-produced channels include Newsy, IGN TV, Baeble Music TV and FNL Network. A Wurl TV-produced offering, the ALT Channel, features content from partners such as Busca TV, Sportskool, ZoominTV, Splash News, Obsev, Foody TV, Comedy Time and Bonnier.

#2 Samsung Teams with Amazon on Open HDR10+ Standard
Samsung announced that it has teamed up with Amazon to introduce a new high-dynamic-range (HDR) standard to the video market. Amazon Video is the first streaming video service that will implement HDR10+ technology to deliver an HDR video feed to Prime Video customers.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The Samsung-backed HDR10+ technology (based on the SMPTE 2094-40 standard) is an open standard that leverages dynamic metadata to produce enhanced contrast and colors on an expanded range of televisions. Samsung is positioning the standard as a royalty-free dynamic-metadata alternative to Dolby Vision, which uses dynamic metadata but requires a licensing fee.

#3 Hulu Taps Tremor Video for Sell-Side Ad Platform
Tremor Video announced that Hulu has selected its sell-side platform to power an advanced TV advertising system that will span PCs as well as mobile and TV-connected OTT devices.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Hulu currently offers an SVOD service with limited ads for $7.99 per month, as well as an ad-free version that runs $11.99 per month. Hulus also nearing the debut of a live TV service that will include the ad-supported SVOD offering.
