Hello hello! So, how are you this week? Here at Bradt, our strapline is Travel taken seriously and I've been thinking this week about what that really means. I think there's a danger to think that it means life taken seriously, which could either mean a joyless existence or perhaps a focused, fulfilled, and fun one depending on your point of view. With travel, I'd like to think that it means the following: prioritising travel in our own lives and in projects we support aiming for travel that brings some good into the world rather than harm embracing far flung destinations while also looking close to home helping people to overcome any fears or inertia they may have about heading onto the open road Some of these points are easier to see. For example, we're a UK based company and have a whole series of titles on Slow Travel in the UK. When it comes to far flung destinations, over 70% of our city, region and country guides still have no direct competition from other publishers. We have the Travel Club to help people plan their travels and find discounted deals. And our travel literature series brings stories from around the world to those of us at home. We aim to be conscientious travellers and to promote sustainable travel (with articles like this one) but I'm well aware that that's a work in progress with plenty more to do. in the meantime, I'm curious. What do you think Travel taken seriously means to you? Cheers, Abi PS - Next week is the biggest sale of the year as Black Friday hoves into view.
