Cobb The frantic ringing of a bell woke me from a sound sleep in the dead of night. Skylar, our Border Collie, was trained to ring a bell hanging from the doorknob if she needed to go outside for an emergency potty trip. Unfortunately, she quickly learned that her “staff” would jump and open the door anytime she rang. Sometimes, she just wanted to go out and roll in the grass or chase rabbits. But this was different. This was the middle of the night. She didn’t usually ring the bell in the middle of the night. I pulled myself out of bed, grabbed my cell phone to use as a light so I wouldn’t disturb my husband, and stumbled to the back door as the ringing got louder and more persistent.
