| Stephen Watkins joined the ABC in 1964, like many others, starting in the mailroom. Across his 60-year career he's also worked for the ABC's finance department, and looked after the needs of world-famous performers while he was at ABC Concerts. In 1978 he stepped into a career in TV and radio with ABC FM before taking on a role with the Specialist Religion Department in 1984. Warned "It's unlikely to last a year," when asked to take on presenting For The God Who Sings in 2004, 20 years later the program is still a weekly staple for audiences around Australia. Find out how Watkins's love of the ABC started when he was a child in the dairy-farming community of Tanja on the NSW Sapphire Coast and evolved into a rich and varied career with Australia's national broadcaster. | |
