There’s so much to love about it, including a quaint shopping center that has thrived with an exclusive assortment of mom-and-pop stores where you can while away an afternoon. Or more precisely: mom stores. Women own and operate almost all the businesses in English Village.
For decades the 16-store complex on Darby Drive has persevered despite malls, chain businesses and online shopping. Its sentimental owner has declined numerous offers to buy the little complex that his granddaddy built. He won’t rent to just anyone, either.
“I think we’ve just got a cool little niche. We try to create an experience,” said Trip Bower, owner of English Village and other commercial properties around Florence.
