Danny, a Labrador Retriever, responded with a whimper and continued to dig his feet into the rug, vigorously resisting my efforts. He was facing his greatest fear, and no encouragement was going to convince him to overcome it. People moved around us, staring as they walked by. It wasn't every day they saw a dog in the mall, let alone one refusing stubbornly to move an inch. We stood at the entrance of the building, stuck on the large rug that lay just beyond the doors.
