One of the things we -- well, okay, I -- say often on the Fantasy Baseball Podcast is that full-season statistics are more predictive than partial-season ones. This is to guard against the tendency to say, ''From August 14 on ...'', because we've all been burned by that second-half breakout who flops the next season. However, even I know that's a losing battle. Second-half breakouts are often treated to inflated draft values the following season, while the first-half stars tend to get forgetting if they can't keep it up. But there's not really any reason to think those second-half stars will have more staying power than the others — so Frank Stampfl wanted to give some shine to last year's forgotten early-season breakouts. They showed the ability to perform at a high level, and you can bet on them figuring it out for a full season at a reduced price now. I also wrote an advanced stats primer for Fantasy baseball, so you can know what we're talking about when we reference ''xwOBA'' or '' BABIP'' or ''barrel rate.'' Here's how you get a leg up on the competition.
