Your Tuesday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Nov 23, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, It’s hard to criticise the ambitions behind the campaign group called Extinction Rebellion. They are determined to make the world a better place by forcing Governments - and people - to change the way they live in order to prolong the life of the planet and stop extinction events becoming a reality. So far, so good. And like many protest groups, they are there to be our conscience: to make us think about things we may not have considered and to fight against the status quo. Now the group, which has caused chaos on roads around the capital this year by gluing themselves to asphalt, have pledged that 2022 will be the year when they step up their action - and they want 2.3m people in the country to join them. There are no specifics about what form the action will take, but they are promising the 'largest act of civil resistance in UK history.’ In the end, any kind of change requires public support and there is a fine line between lawful protest and civil unrest. That might be something ER wants to consider carefully. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at [email protected] | |
