Bylaws serve as the governing documents of the medical staff and must comply with hospital accreditation standards, the Medicare Conditions of Participation, HCQIA, and other state and federal laws. Medical staff professionals, with their vast knowledge and ability to stay up-to-date on regulatory changes, play a crucial role in helping medical staffs revise and reinvigorate their bylaws. During this 90-minute program, expert speaker Michael R. Callahan, JD, will dive into several recommendations and implementations of bylaw amendments to improve compliance but avoid being overly prescriptive. Callahan will review sections of typical medical staff bylaws to point out common mistakes or lapses in language that can lead to legal trouble for an organization. In addition, medical staff leaders and MSPs will learn how healthcare reform is changing medical staff bylaws.
