Finally, some good news -- and plenty of it

Good morning, and welcome to the Thursday, Oct. 24 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter.

After a rough couple of weeks, the Saints finally started to receive some good news, and it came in bunches. Let's take a look...

On board

We no longer need to worry about Alvin Kamara's long-term future in New Orleans. The Saints and the star running back agreed to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday, which will effectively keep him in New Orleans through 2026.

Matthew Paras has all the details on the new $25 million deal and explains what it might mean for the team's plans for the upcoming trade deadline.

Help on the way

For the first time in a long time, the team's injury report featured promising news. Several key players returned to the practice field and others had their statuses upgraded for the team's upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers. 

Breaking news

The new contract wasn't the only news about Kamara on Wednesday. He revealed to reporters that he's been playing with a broken hand for the past two weeks.

The Saints' leaky run defense has been one of their biggest issues in recent weeks. Luke Johnson takes a deep dive into the myriad reasons why the run defense has struggled.
