A last look at our animal-inspired show, joyful new arrivals for print lovers, and your chance to stitch with Adriana Torres – flying in from Argentina this week!
This Week at Atelier Beside the Sea Art, books, workshops, and a final goodbye to ANIMAL |

Last chance to catch ANIMAL – our lively and unexpected exhibition exploring animals in art through the eyes of 15 brilliant artists and makers. From John Hewitt’s delicate drawings to Roman Klonek’s bold graphic woodcuts, and Rachel Sumner’s charming wooden birds crafted from found tools and timber, it’s a show full of character and craft. You’ll also find exquisitely stitched creatures by Made by Swimmer and Alexis Snell’s lino-printed beasts that feel straight from a storybook. It all wraps up at 5pm on Sunday 20th July, so pop in before it disappears. |

At Atelier Beside the Sea, we’re passionate about proper printmaking – the inky, tactile kind – and one of our gallery spaces is always devoted to it in all its glorious forms. We’re now restocked with some real printmaking gems from the ever brilliant Design For Today, a small independent press dedicated to traditional printing methods and beautiful design. In stock now are three fantastic little books that celebrate the art of print: ‘Meet the Typographer’ by award-winning illustrator Gaby Bazin is a vibrant and accessible guide to the craft of typography – so good it made The Times Art Books of the Year. ‘Lithography: Drawn to the Stone’ is a 10-panel concertina by lithographer Bernard Cheese, breaking down the process of stone lithography step by step, with added illustrations by Hilary Stebbing. And ‘The Print Shop’ by Alice Pattullo is a richly detailed fold-out guide to how a book comes to life, from design to final print – every panel using a different technique, from risograph to embossing. These pocket-sized powerhouses are as joyful to flick through as they are informative – perfect for anyone who loves illustration, print, or beautifully made things. |

Adriana Torres flies in from Argentina this week, and we’ve still got a few spaces left on two of her magical embroidery workshops: Play & Stitch (20 July) and The Forest Alphabet (22 July). These inspiring sessions are part of Adriana’s global tour and a rare chance to learn brand new Argentinian stitches she’s sharing for the first time. Play & Stitch is all about unlocking creativity through her iconic sweater-chair design, while The Forest Alphabet explores a whimsical, nature-inspired lettering project. No experience needed – just bring your curiosity. You can take either class on its own, or join both for a two-day creative retreat with one of the most imaginative embroidery artists working today. |
