As thousands of SFUSD students settle into their second week of the fall semester, Foodwise is getting ready to welcome them to the free farmers market for field trips and rich educational experiences, meeting farmers and nurturing their love of fresh, healthy food.
So far 99 community members have donated $26,672 to support critical food education for San Francisco youth—meaning we’re less than $4K away from our $30K fundraising goal. If you have donated already, thank you! If you have not given yet, we need your help to get to the finish line. Will you chip in now to help us reach our goal by August 31?
We know you care about the future of small family farmers, farmers markets, and equitable food access. That future depends on all kids being able to participate in our local food system, nourish themselves, and feel that farmers markets are a place for them. Last year alone, your supportmade all of this work possible:
1,947 elementary school students and 484 adultsaccessed fresh fruits and veggies and educational experiences through our Foodwise Kids farmers market field trips and hands-on cooking classes. 88 SFUSD high school students participated in our Foodwise Teensfood justice, job training, and youth development program, while getting paid for their work, with 21 teens placed in summer jobs in our farmers markets. 76 kids and 67 adults participated in our Family Cook Nights, where families practiced their cooking skills together, preparing healthy meals from scratch using farmers market produce.
Help us support these formative experiences for kids to engage in their local food system and Bay Area community, while contributing to an equitable and sustainable food future. Will you invest in San Francisco youth and help get us to our goal by August 31 with a donation today? |
