Hyperallergic has partnered with the Ford Foundation to publish select pieces from its ongoing series Creative Futures. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Movement for Black Lives, and other epicenters of social upheaval in 2020, the foundation has commissioned 40 provocations from creatives working in journalism, documentary, and arts and culture. These two essays document the current political moment through fresh lenses.On the theme of “Artmaking,” Coco Fusco argues that establishing new institutions is more important than creating new art.On the theme of “The Money,” Emily Ladau writes about “supported storytelling” — how journalists can not just report on marginalized people, but help them while doing so.
