BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Pollution ruling: Louisiana officials have argued that the Environmental Protection Agency's rules applying the federal Civil Rights Act to pollution enforcement were unconstitutional because of their use of race to direct regulatory actions, and in violation of the federal Clean Air Act. A federal judge has agreed with the state's argument. Read about the reaction to the ruling. Cut down: Two large live oak trees were cut down outside a former restaurant in Gonzales, spurring concerns about the removal of the trees. Coleen Landry, chair of the Louisiana Live Oak Society, said one of the trees was registered with the society in 1997, with a girth of 16 feet, 10 inches and had a canopy of 100 feet.
