Positive earnings reports boost leading regional banks Citizens Financial Group, M&T Bank and U.S. Bancorp have posted second-quarter earnings reports that met or surpassed expectations. The banks also said deposits are generally showing stability and that net interest income has increased. Major regional banks "have shown that they are in a position to get back the deposits, but going ahead the focus will also be on seeing at what costs are they able to accumulate it," said analyst Christopher McGratty of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods.
