Keeping cops on the beat: NOPD interim Superintendent Michelle Woodfork said earlier this week that the beleaguered police force has cut its rate of attrition in half, but its ranks remain well below where they were three years ago and well short of its goal of having 1,200 cops on the beat. Matt Sledge and John Simerman have a look at the numbers. A long road: More than a year after the City Council froze $7.5 million in funding in protest over snarled road construction work, many residents feel like little has changed with the massive street reconstruction program underway throughout the city. However, Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration says they’ve learned from their mistakes. Matt Sledge has the story.
