By Ana

Adding Ribbon Flair To Planters - tan and white ribbon on pot of red mums sitting on a white plant standI love using ribbon or fabric strips to dress up planters and pots. The ribbon with wire holds up the best and if outside in the elements, it keeps its shape and color. This look gives any basic pot, planter, or even a window box, that final jewelry accessory to your planting outfit.

A latch hook rug made from recycled fabrics.I made a rug from a less-than-lovely knitted throw and some old t-shirts. Everything is machine washable, and I didn't have to run out and get rug canvas. I cut the t-shirts into small 1 inch wide and 3 inch long strips and created a latch hook rug.

Painting An Old T-Shirt
If you're tired of an old drab t-shirt, paint it. Iron freezer paper onto the front of the shirt you are going to put your design on. Gently cut out design, then gently pull the cut design away.
Embroidery Floss for Hand Sewing
Being the frugal person I am, instead of buying a spool of thread to match the item I am hand sewing, I keep on hand a bag of embroidery 6 strand thread that has many choices of colors to chose from.
Shelf Liner for Wobbly Sewing Machine
Another use for rubber shelf liner is to place a scrap piece under your sewing machine. This is handy and keeps my sewing machine from moving while I'm using it.

Fleece Hats for Premature Babies
These little baby hats are quick and easy to make. Your local neonatal unit will be delighted to have them. Use the softest finest fleece you can find, in white, blue, pink.
Rotary Cutting Tip
If you are using a rotary cutter with a marked ruler and a marked cutting mat, use one or the other to measure your cutting line. Never switch between the ruler marking and the mat marking, they may not be exactly the same.
How To Store Crochet Doilies
I love to crochet doilies with #10 thread and #6 crochet hook. I block them, then when thoroughly dry, place on a paper plate. I have about 10 stacked each on a paper plate on top of each other, stored in a cupboard.
Decorating Scrapbook Paper And Cardstock
I love buying scrapbook paper, but some seem a little pricey, especially the glitter paper. I got the idea to add my own touch to the paper with glitter glue and dimensional fabric paint.
Securing Patterns Without Pins
Forget the pins! Instead, secure the "dress" (sewing) pattern to the top of the fabric by weighing it down with butter knives (Mom's favorite) or paperback books (mine). It's faster, and easy to "smooth out".
Donate Partial Spools of Thread
When the spool only has a little thread left on it, it is not worth putting on the sewing machine, as it will be gone after a few stitches. I save these almost empty spools and give them to my senior friends.
