Michigan schools fine-tune arts assessment
Four years of development in Michigan has produced an arts platform where educators can share a curriculum and better methods for assessing student work. The Maryland Department of Education has been awarded a $7.5 million federal grant to help students with disabilities prepare for college and the workforce. California, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont were also awarded grants for similar initiatives. Read more>>

State support for schools last year was 62.7 percent of costs, a report from the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau shows. That’s up from 62.3 percent in 2014 and 62 percent in 2013. Blaming a sharp enrollment decline, some 140 teachers and 109 more school-based workers, such as classroom aides, were pink-slipped by Chicago Public Schools.
