Feds investigating ex-senator

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. Here are some of our top recent stories.

Feds investigating ex-senator

Longtime State Sen. Karen Carter Peterson resigned suddenly on Friday. Our reporters have learned that she's under federal investigation.

Details are sparse, but we know it's finance-related. It's a story we're going to be watching closely.

The economic cost of violence

Krystal Knox opened a clothing store, Knox Royal Kreations, in Scotlandville, hoping to bring some new life back to an area that has fallen apart economically. But she says the rise in Baton Rouge gun violence is scaring off customers and making it hard to stay open.

It's a story that some local leaders say shows a vicious cycle: A lack of economic opportunity causes people to turn to crime, which makes it even harder to create businesses and jobs.

LSU spring practice

We're watching LSU's spring practice closely for insights on what Brian Kelly's new team will look like. A few recent takeaways: John Emery looks like he could be a beast at running back, but things are looking kind of shaky at cornerback.

Thanks for reading, and have a great week!
