Employers are less likely to hire applicants who live far away than those who live near the job, according to a study in The Journal of Human Resources. Researchers sent fictional resumes to low-wage jobs in Washington, D.C., and generated one-third less callbacks for candidates living 5 to 6 miles from the job site.
