The Lunch Line: FDA approves Pfizer vaxx. What now? And there's a Saints game tonight

By Bob Warren

Line forms on the left: Wonder if vaccination sites will be busier today, now that the FDA has issued its approval of one of the COVID vaccines? And are more vaccine mandates forthcoming in the wake of the FDA’s giving full approval of Pfizer’s vaccine? Stay tuned.

Now that the FDA has done it's thing, students at four-year public universities in Louisiana are on the vaccination clock. (Most New Orleans universities were already requiring vaccinations.)

Speaking of shots . . . health care officials continue to stress the importance of vaccinations. But in Louisiana, particularly rural Louisiana, vaccinations have really lagged.

Black and Gold Monday: The Saints play in the Caesars Superdome tonight, but you already knew that, right? But just in case you haven’t been keeping up, here’s some things to know:

  • There are no crowd caps, but getting inside the Dome will require proof of being vaccinated or a recent negative COVID test. And bring your mask -- they're required.
  • Also, you’ll notice the place has a new name. Here’s some background on Caesars taking over the naming rights from Mercedes-Benz.
  • Here's how to find the game on TV, etc.
  • Oh, and here’s a little about the actual football team from Jeff Duncan.

In mourning: Many across the region are mourning the death of a New Orleans Police Department detective who was fatally shot during a robbery over the weekend in Houston. Everett Briscoe was  a 13-year veteran of the police department.

Also in the news: Two notable obits today: Cheryl R. Teamer, a former top aide to Mayor Marc Morial, and Jimmy Fahrenholtz, a former Orleans Parish School Board member.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us.
